Last Sunday’s episode, Dex Takes a Holiday,  was one of the best episodes we have seen in a long time. As the twisted, extremely exciting fifty minutes went by we followed two major storylines, Dexter dealing with his Dark Passenger and Lundy getting close to the Trinity Killer, with the relationship storylines (Deb/Anton/Lundy, Quinn/Reporter Chick, and Angel/Maria) taking the back seat. With so much happening this episode, it is tough to choose where to start but I suppose it would only make sense to kick off with Dexter’s storyline. As you may recall, last week Rita caught Dex breaking his neighbor’s security lights and we were left with several questions as to where this would lead and how Dexter would get out of it. Well, it turns out Rita just thinks that Dexter has reached his “boiling point” and needs some space. She leaves with the kids to go to an out-of-town wedding and leaves Dexter at home to cool down and get some rest, which is fantastic for both us and Dexter. This gives Dex enough free time to get rid of that pesky sleep exhaustion and do some good ol’ killin’, and it lets us watch him back in his element. Using his window of freedom to be as productive as possible he begins stalking his newest prey, Zoey Kruger (Christina Cox). Kruger is a horribly bent police officer whom Dex suspects of killing her own husband and daughter. She is a wonderful victim for Dexter because, not only is she a cop, but she is just as clever as Dex and the whole family issue comes into play at key times in the episode. Our favorite serial killer heads over to her house to snoop around and we get to see some fantastic detective work and even a little feigned flirting from Dex, but it turns out Kruger is smarter than he expected because she confronts him later and threatens to kill him right there. It is here that one of the best scenes of the episode is delivered. Dexter whips out his incredible knowledge of blood spatter to keep a disturbed woman with a gun pressed to his skull from killing him. We get to see just how smart Dex is, how manipulative and confident he is, and just how much he has evolved over the years. Having provoked his prey, Dex waits for her to make the first move and when she does he gets the upper hand and she winds up in a classic kill room. Dex has the usual two minutes of therapy before he kills his victim, but this time it actually helps a lot and we get to see another brilliant scene where Dex comes to realize that he has genuine, real feelings for his family. It is an awesome and beautiful scene and was definitely the peak of Dexter’s storyline this season. The relationship between Angel and Maria seemed to have little purpose other than comic relief this episode, only coming into play when Dexter is cornered by each of them and asked for advice on their secret relationship. The same goes for Quinn and reporter Christine… except their storyline wasn’t even funny.  Christine once again uses information Quinn told her to write a crushing article and yet he keeps talking to her… smart move for an experienced cop, eh? The rest of the episode’s excitement came from Lundy’s search for Trinity. We get glimpses of Lundy’s methods and all of his experience comes into play as he closes in on the Killer. We get to see a different side of Trinity when he discovers how close Lundy is to catching him. I mean, he has been roaming the country for thirty years without even coming up on anyone’s radar and now an ex-FBI agent is practically knocking at his door. Trinity is a very interesting character and I just can’t get a read on him. We know that his family died in some horrible way, and he is re-enacting their deaths over and over in order to get some sort of satisfaction or feeling. The episode ends with a cataclysmic event and leaves us with a huge cliffhanger. Let’s just say that just the right people were hurt/killed/attacked in order to get some rising action in the rest of the season and perhaps even put Trinity into Dexter’s sight. Watch the episode to have all the holes filled in and definitely catch next weeks Dexter to find out what happens!!  (source:www.famousmonstersoffilmland.com)   CHRISTINA TV WATCH: Thursday, November 26, at 5:40AM, on Cinemax they will air "MISTRIAL".
